11/3/2022 0 Comments Ruff ryders volume 1 track list![]() The lack of Dame Grease tracks seem to take the album down a small notch, but X makes up for it by demolishing every track on the album anyways. The production is solid, to say the least, but it pales in comparison to his first album all around. Unlike his debut however, the sound is mostly handled by Swizz Beatz, which might be why I can't place it above his debut. Released right at the end of 1998, this album showcases DMX in a slightly more aggressive vibe than his debut, while being a bit more reflective as well. However, the sophomore project from X is still one of his most concise albums and quite possibly a classic. it's hard to rank anything above the groundbreaking debut from DMX. I think in some way that it could be better than his debut, but then again. All in all, A Gangster And A Gentleman is a near classic album that showcases Styles as perhaps the best artist in The LOX. The best tracks? I would have to rank "The Life", "We Thugs (My Niggas)", "Lick Shots", "Good Times", and "Black Magic" as the top 5 here. Overall, this is just a really strong album. The features include the rest of the LOX, Angie Stone, Pharoahe Monch, Eve, and M.O.P., making for a solid cast of guest appearances. It showcased the duality of Styles and what he represents, and with production from The Alchemist, Ayatollah, Swizz Beatz, and more, the sound of the album was in good hands. A Gangster And A Gentleman lived up to its title by providing a mix of solid hardcore lyricism with thought provoking and honest tracks as well. His debut solo project is the best solo project from the Ruff Ryders crew outside of X. Even with that however, it seems as if the best artist on that label was actually Styles P (besides X), at least in terms in creating an album. It's funny when you think of the Ruff Ryders brand because I feel like the most popular artists besides DMX are Eve and Jadakiss. It's still the best Jada project ever released. Make no mistake about it, with tracks like "Show Discipline", "Feel Me", "Uh-Hunh", "We Gonna Make It", and "Knock Yourself Out", there's no denying this album as one of the more solid releases from Ruff Ryders. His guest feature list is pretty long as well, as Nate Dogg, DMX, Nas, Styles P, Carl Thomas, Snoop Dogg, and more help Jada craft his first opus. ![]() Backed by production from Swizz Beatz, Timbaland, Just Blaze, The Neptunes, DJ Premier, The Alchemist, and more, Jada delivers on a number of tracks here. For a rapper like Jada, less is more and honestly, that would have worked here. Make no mistake about it, Jada pulled out all the stops with this one, pulling out an All Star cast of producers and guest appearances, but it might have been overkill. it just was a bit too much of everything and slightly overzealous for a Jadakiss album. However, his debut solo album was anything but boring. Some liked his Kiss Of Death album in 2004, but I've always felt that album was boring for the most part. but Jada doesn't have any classic albums and there isn't one that comes close to it. See More Your browser does not support the audio element. The team saves their best productions for DMX spotlights: the minute-long "Bugout" and the title track. It's got a few hardcore tracks, a few bounce tracks, and a few midtempo R&B tracks, but it's far too scattershot and never jells as it should (two complaints often lodged against No Limit albums). ![]() ![]() Though several of the track productions are excellent (including the New Orleans horns of "Down Bottom," featuring native-born Juvenile, and the salsa rhythms on "What Ya Want"), the album suffers elsewhere by trying to be everything to everyone. RUFF RYDERS VOLUME 1 TRACK LIST PLUS1 features tracks from established names like the LOX, Jay-Z, Jermaine Dupri, Big Pun, Mase, and DMX himself, plus new signees to the label like Eve and Drag-On.
